Someone cue up Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNQRfBAzSzo) because President Obama's nominees are dropping like flies and tax indiscretions are to blame.
Tom Daschle (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/feb/03/obama-administration-daschle-withdraw-health-secretary) and Nancy Killefer (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090203/ap_on_go_pr_wh/obama_killefer) have now joined Al Capone in being undone by dodging taxes (http://www.fbi.gov/libref/historic/famcases/capone/capone.htm).
In one day the new president's nominees for health secretary and chief performance officer for the federal government have been laid to waste.
I never thought I'd love taxes so much.
Unfortunately Timothy Geithner, someone who is supposed to be one of the masterminds behind Obama's economic policy, managed to win confirmation as Treasury secretary despite his astronomical unpaid tax bill (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123187503629378119.html).
Call me crazy, but I have this insane expectation that my tax-paid government representatives should actually pay their taxes the same way I do.
Good riddance to Daschle and Killefer. Maybe our Holiness the president can try and take a closer look at his vetting process for his nominees — if he even has one.
That might be a change we can believe in.
